Dang, this woman is so insightful and eloquent. I must have highlighted something on every page! She may be labeled a feminist, but she is 1000 times more than that.
Decades later, these words still ring true. I'm about the same age now as Gloria Steinem was when she wrote these words. The world I live in today is grossly different and yet eerily similar to what she describes. Women continue to be expected to be both mother and worker. That hasn't changed. However, there is a bit more pressure on men to also do both, which is a step in the right direction. We continue to be divided from other marginalized groups, which makes all of us less effective. That only helps perpetuate the status quo.
Spend a few minutes of your life and read this reflection. If you're anything like me, you'll have more questions raised than answers. That's ok. We need to continue to raise consciousness as we battle political and cultural wars.
Wow! Gloria is such an amazing writer, I am just beginning to read her books and this little tidbit has definitely left me wanting to read and learn more!!!
