Let me start by saying it would have been a near impossible feat for the follow up book to beat the first- Surrendering is probably the best new adult book I've ever read. I'm not one to leave big synopsis in a review, and I try to never leave major spoilers, so just a couple of quick points to highlight!MILD SPOILERS AHEAD!!!!
Declan- by far and away my favorite book boyfriend of all time. Even at the end of Surrendering when I wanted to kill him, I still loved him. And boy, did he redeem himself in Surviving!
Raven- love her! I saw another reviewer who was a bit critical on her, I respectfully disagree. I think the beauty of the two books is the character development is very realistic, and in real life people are not perfect! She certainly had a few melodramatic moments, but nothing way over the top, and overall she's a great character.
The Secondary Characters- are awesome! Well developed, but not over developed, just what the should be!
Finn- well done. That's all I can say without saying too much!
Plotline- and here's my only criticism. It drags a little, just a little. There were a few times where I felt like I was waiting for
things to happen. In fairness, there is a lot of time and material covered. I loved the story, loved the development and progress of all the characters and definitely respect that this is more a story that seems to be about growth and an examination of relationships through life experiences, but I just didn't feel quite the emotional punch that I felt in book 1. That being said, it was still excellent and a great completion to the story!
I think Ahren Sanders is a phenomenal writer, and I really hope to see more from her soon!!!!!

This is the second book in this series.. and I hope not the last hint hint!!
If you have not read book one Surrendering.. you must! As this book picks up right where that one leaves off!
This books starts with Raven living and working in Paris. She is accompanied by her best friend Finn. but Finn has other plans for her.. If you have read the book description you already know that Raven does find her way back to Declan.. but it is not a easy road by any means and the things that do happen with Finn effect that path greatly.
Raven has really come into her own in this book. She stands up for what she believes is right and sometimes this is a good thing.. but also it can be a bad thing. I just wish that she would understood her place a little bit more within the band and understood the love those men have for her and stop trying to push them away all the time and questioning if she was actually bad for the group.
Declan has also grown this book. His love for Raven outshines everything else and truly is his number one priority in life. His possessiveness is actually very HOT!!!
These two defiantly don't have a easy road but the best thing in life are always worth the fight. The turmoil these two overcome to stay together and pretty much tell the world to bad is admirable.
I loved this book and really hope we can get more about this crew. I would love a Finn book! great job again!
Get Surrender, book 1 first! They need to be read in order. For a new author this one has the goods! I received Surrender in a box set I purchased and first of all couldn't believe how long it was but was then even more surprised at how quickly I became so personally involved with the characters. They are so well developed and there are so many of them, all with their own issues and dynamics and I couldn't put it down! Then I get to the end just to find out WHAT?!?! Cliff hanger! I won't give it away but to say the least I immediately went to and purchased this 2nd in the series. I was blown away by the book length again and kept thinking 'how can there be that much left to tell' but trust me when I say Ahren Sanders can TELL A STORY! IT JUST KEPT GOING AND GETTING BETTER AND BETTER! I think one thing I definitely appreciated was that the author wrote characters that didn't constantly break up and get back together over one obviously stupid misunderstanding after another. It was so nice to read about a badass rocker that would do anything he had to do to make the love of his life trust and believe in his love for her. As young as Raven is in the beginning I worried the story wouldn't be believable and that her character showed almost too much maturity for her age but it didn't take long to become a huge fan and supporter of Raven and Declan's love story. Declan is also a young man although a little older than Ravenel but you 'get it' that they both come from backgrounds where they have been raised and taught well and are educated. They get how hard they are going to have to work to make this relationship work so when events out of their control pop up they fight like hell for what really matters. It helps that they surround themselves with amazing friends and family that also support them. I absolutely loved this series and can't wait to read the next offering by Arhren Sanders!
